How to Make Valentine’s Day Puppy Chow

Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to take a break from those New Year’s resolutions and enjoy something sweet!

Make your sweetheart this tasty Valentine Puppy Chow (also know as Valentine Muddy Buddies) and it will be a huge hit!

Made with Chex cereal coated in colored candy melts, powdered sugar, and tossed with Valentine M&M’s, this is an easy dessert to make on a whim!

P.S. despite its name, this is NOT a recipe for dogs!

Ingredients Needed:

  • Chex Cereal: The plain kind works best
  • Pink Candy Melts: Can often find these at your local craft store such as Michael’s and Hobby Lobby
  • White Candy Melts: Can also use white chocolate chips
  • Powdered Sugar: This is the main ingredient so don’t skip this one!
  • Pink & Red M&M’s: Can also use any pink and red candy you want.
  • Valentine’s Day Sprinkles: Optional but adds an additional cuteness.

Helpful Information:

  • Ensure you evenly coat all of the cereal with the chocolate or the powdered sugar won’t stick.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature away from heat and moisture.

Valentine Puppy Chow

Ingredients
  

  • 6 cups Chex cereal
  • 1/2 package pink candy melts 6 oz.
  • 1/2 package white candy melts 6 oz.
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • pink & red M&M candies
  • Valentine’s Day sprinkles

Instructions
 

  • Take two large mixing bowls, and add half of the chex cereal to each bowl.
  • In a microwave safe bowl, melt the pink candy melts by microwaving for 30 second increments, stirring well between.
  • Pour the melted candy over one of the bowls of chex, and toss the cereal in the candy to coat.
  • Add 1 cup of the powdered sugar to two gallon plastic storage bags.
  • Add the pink coated chex cereal to one of the bags, close, and shake to coat the cereal in powdered sugar.
  • Repeat this process by melting the white candy melts.
  • Pour the white candy over the remaining bowl of cereal, and toss to coat.
  • Add the white coated cereal to the other powdered sugar bag. Close, and shake to coat in the powdered sugar.
  • Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment, and pour the sugar coated chex onto the baking sheet in an even layer.
  • Allow the candy to set on the cereal, for about 1 hour.
  • When serving, add the coated chex to a serving bowl, and add M&M candies and sprinkles.
