How to Make An Ambrosia Salad with Canned Fruit

Ambrosia salad is a great dessert but also makes a great side dish for summer barbecues, holidays like Easter and more!

Made with Cool-Whip, canned fruit and fruity mini marshmallows, this fluffy dessert will be a huge hit at any gathering!

Ingredients Needed:

  • Cool Whip: Make sure it’s thawed enough to mix.
  • Sour Cream: Gives it a fluffy, creamy taste and texture.
  • Pineapple Chunks, Drained, And Halved: Canned pineapple chunks work great.
  • Mandarin Oranges, Drained: Canned mandarin oranges work best.
  • Fruity Mini Marshmallows: Can also use the white mini marshmallows.
  • Sweetened Coconut Flakes: Gives a bit of a tropical taste. Can skip.
  • Maraschino Cherries, Drained, And Halved (Plus More For Topping, Optional)

Helpful Information:

  • You can make this 1-2 days in advance and store in the fridge. However, I prefer to make it the day of to avoid the marshmallows getting too soggy.
  • You can add nuts like walnuts or pecans to this for an added crunch.

How to make Ambrosia Salad using canned fruit

Ingredients
  

  • 8 ounces cool whip
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 20 oz. pineapple chunks drained, and halved
  • 15 oz. mandarin oranges drained
  • 1 1/2 cups fruity mini marshmallows
  • 1 cup sweetened coconut flakes
  • 1/3 cup maraschino cherries drained, and halved (plus more for topping, optional)

Instructions
 

  • In a large mixing bowl, mix together the cool whip and sour cream until well combined.
  • Fold in the pineapple, mandarin oranges, marshmallows, coconut, and cherries.
  • Chill for 30 minutes-1 hour.
  • Optional, before serving, top with extra cherries.
